Handbook “Quick Start Guidelines for Improving the Accessibility of WordPress-Based Websites”

The “Quick guidelines for improving the accessibility of WordPress based web-sites” aims to offer specific guidelines for improving certain segments of website accessibility in WordPress, as the most widely used platform in web design.

In addition to the instructions for the WordPress platform, brief notes for “custom-made” platforms are also given. In this example, WordPress 5.8 version was used, which at the time of writing these guidelines, is the latest version. The language version is English as well as all accompanying graphic elements.

There are lots of accessibility plug-ins for WordPress, that work without modifying the existing code of your website, however they are not a substitute for WCAG 2.1 web accessibility guidelines, but will make your website easier to use for persons with different types of disabilities.

We have created a short video tutorial with simple steps for installing the accessibility plug-in. The video is available at this link

For detailed instructions on how to harmonize website accessibility, regardless of the platform on which they are created, see the WCAG 2.1 Web content accessibility guidelines developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative

The development of the handbook is one of the recommendations of the “Analysis of accessibility of websites of key government institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina for persons with disabilities and compliance with European regulations on accessibility” which was created in December 2020 within the project “Communities of different but equal citizens” funded by the European Union and implemented by the Organization of amputees “UDAS” in partnership with the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka and the Association of citizens “Nešto Više”.
